# Chapter 15: Queen Harmonia and the Mysterious Droplets

It was a frosty day on the Lego Peninsula. The sun shone its weak, feeble light through the wispy clouds above and the ground was sharp and hard with the cold. Queen Harmonia stepped forward and jammed her piton into the unforgiving surface. “Hrrngh!” pulling out the second piton required a little extra effort. She stopped and rested for a moment, surveying the land around her.

The icy stillness could be somewhat unnerving, but Harmonia felt comfortable here, on the edge of the world. She recalled other exploration missions she’d undertaken; the depths of the Jellybean Jungle, the deep caves beneath the Foosball Table, the fetid swamps of the Zygote Marshlands, each of them had presented their own unique challenges. Each of them had been tackled appropriately and those missions had been a success for Harmonia and for the Hive. She checked her backpack and made sure she had access to everything she needed. While not exactly sure why she was hiking the remote reaches of the peninsula, she knew that there would be a very good reason.

‘That’s enough of a rest,’ she thought as she turned back to the path. A few steps later, something in the trees caught her eye. She carefully navigated her way off the path and into the tree stacks. As she drew closer, it became clearer that she was looking at some frozen droplets at the ends of the branches. They were amber in color, with a strange greenish aura around them. Clearly this was something unusual and potentially valuable for all Beekind.

She harvested it, delicately, and stored it in her bandolier of test tubes that she carried for this exact purpose. Despite the whole tree being aglow with the green aura, Harmonia was surprised to find that she could only harvest three test tubes worth of the mysterious liquid. She guessed that would have to be enough as none of the other trees in this grove had the same glow. Returning to the path, she kept her eyes peeled for any other trees with the same glow.

As night fell, Harmonia began to set up camp. The rest of the day had been a mixed success, she’d found one other tree with the strange glow, but also a boulder and a hornbeetle casing. In total, she’d managed to gather eight tubes of the unusual substance. She recorded each finding and hoped that the added details would be useful when she turned it all over to the Office of Technology.

Cynthia was delighted to be asked to work on the findings from Harmonia’s latest exploration, she always found the most interesting discoveries. Her highlights included; unearthing Moondust Pollen, capturing a Sunburst, and inventing the Holy Flashlight. She was an absolute icon. Cynthia wondered what this next discovery would lead to.

Arriving in the lab with the lights off, it was impossible to miss the green glow emanating from the restricted cool-box. Cynthia was even more curious to investigate what Harmonia had discovered. Moving quickly, she donned all the required protective gear and got to work. A whole eight test tubes worth of unknown substance to test meant a lot of work, but Cynthia relished the challenge.

An extraction process here, a distillation there, Cynthia was in the zone. After emptying and testing four of the eight tubes, she had developed a robust hypothesis and went to speak to her supervisor. “Gemini? Can you take a look at this please?”

“Cynthia? I didn’t know you were even working today. Is this the Harmonia research? I’ve been curious about that myself.” Gemini took the papers and read them over, “NO! Do you really think..?” She looked at Cynthia in shock. “It can’t be! Show me what you’ve done.”

Gemini followed Cynthia as they went back to her workstation. “This is very thorough, I can’t think of anything else I would have done to test this theory. Hmm. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but it really looks like Harmonia has found Mad Honey! It’s a very tiny quantity though, so I’m not entirely sure what we’ll be able to do with it.”

Cynthia scratched her head, “What if we tweaked the formula to make only one improvement? Currently, Mad Honey is used to completely overhaul a Bee, but with these microdoses, could we target a specific feature change instead?”

“I like the way you think, Cynthia!” Gemini was enthused by the idea. “Please, carry on your research. I will get in touch with Harmonia and ask that she do her best to harvest as many of these droplets as possible. This idea holds a lot of promise.”
